Gov Ododo Flags Off Kogi Youth Database Platform
As part of activities marking the 2024 International Youth Day celebration, Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has flagged off the Kogi State Youth Database platform created by the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
Performing the ceremony in Lokoja, Governor Ododo in a message said the platform, available at kogiyouthdatabase.com.ng, aims to facilitate connections and recognition for Kogi youths.
Represented by his Deputy, Comrade Salifu Joel Oyibo, the Governor emphasized the importance of youth involvement, noting their achievements in fields like ICT, education, agriculture, and entertainment.
He affirmed his government’s commitment to empowering youths, stating, “They are not leaders of tomorrow; they are leading right now.”
The governor commended the Youths for their engagement in developmental activities as well as for not participating in the recent nationwide protests.
The State Commissioner of Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Monday Anyebe who described Youths as the driving force of the Society, said as pioneers of innovation and bearers of the future of the state, the youths have been given tools that will reshape the world.
He noted that the programme with the theme "From Click to Progress: Youth Digital pathway for Sustainable Development" has Opened up opportunities for education, entrepreneurship and civic engagement.
According to him, it is imperative that youths ensure that their path leads to progress that is inclusive, sustainable and beneficial to all.
He advised the Youths to take ownership of their future by embracing the opportunities that digital technology offers but also learn to be mindful of the challenges.
In their keynote address, Prof. Abel Joseph and Dr. Victoria Ifeoluwa Yemi-Peters from Federal University Lokoja, regretted the negative use of handset by the youths saying personal knowledge has given way for the use of Artificial intelligence systems which according to them destroys the youths rather than helping them make progress.
Highlights of the ceremony include, a panel discussion on leveraging Digital Technology to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), addressing cyber insecurity, and fostering government collaboration as well musical and cultural performance.
