October Kogi LG Polls: We'll Approach it With Nov 11 mentality - Speaker

...says he'll lead from front, not back

...charges APC candidates to work hard to ease victory

15th August, 2024

The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf has said the Local Government Council elections scheduled for October 19, 2024, would be approached with the mentality with which the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, approached the November 11, 2023 gubernatorial election in the State.

This is contained in a press statement signed and made available to the media by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Yabagi Mohammed.

The release noted that the speaker said just like the party did not give rooms for any laxity in the gubernatorial election, the APC would also ensure it does not take any political unit, ward or Local Government for granted.

The Speaker stated this on Thursday in Lokoja following the conclusion of the party's primaries which produced the immediate past Caretaker Transition Committee Chairman of Lokoja Local Government, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu as the party's candidate.

He noted that he is personally invested in the election and that he would lead from the front during campaigns across the ten Wards of the Local Government and not from the back to ensure a clean sweep for the APC.

The Speaker appealed to those who vied for both councillorship and chairmanship positions in the APC before the primaries to continue to be loyal and dedicated to the party's objectives and ensure smooth victory in the October 19 polls.

To him, opportunities and responsibilities abound in the APC and promised that the party would not abandon them.

Rt Hon Umar further charged the party's candidates not to relent, and enjoined them to work hard, close ranks with people, including those in the opposition, to ensure landslide victory for the party.

Earlier in his address, the candidate of the APC for the October 19 chairmanship election, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu had assured that the party would win its election, even in areas that are seemingly the stronghold of the opposition because of the love, support, friendship and impact the ruling party has had in the Local Government Area.

He promised to run an inclusive government that would unite all elements within and outside the party, and thanked the stakeholders for considering him as the flag bearer.

The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly thereafter presented the chairmanship and the ten councillorship candidates to the public to the admiration of all.
